January 28th, 9 participants braved the brooding overcast skies and head out on the well-booted route around Helen Makenzie and Battleship Lakes.
The temperatures hovered above freezing, causing what should have been a light dusting of snow to fall as tiny droplets of water that bounced off our jackets. Everywhere we walked we could see evidence of the snow melting, including many patches where the ground was visible under the snow! I wonder how much longer the lake will be frozen! We expected nicer weather than we received but I didn’t hear any complaints.
We took our time on our route, stopping to take photographs, and eat lunch at the lake. Regardless, we were quick on the route and made it back to the cars within 3 hours.
