Green Mountain – Fall 2020

–submitted by Matthew Lettington
The hike to Green Mountain is always popular. Before the trip, I was turning way interested members as I already had 18 participants and a healthy waitlist. But as the forecast turned, participants started cancelling. By the time the day arrived, we were left with just seven hikers.

Descending the field of ferns.

It was a lovely fall day spent on the old ski slopes of Green Mountain, in the valleys behind Nanaimo. We took our time along following the boot track up the rocky step. The ferns, long dead, still stood talk not yet succumbed to the weight of winters snow. The forecast held rain, but it never manifested and instead, we spent a crisp fall day admiring the view from the peak.
It’s really to bad that we don’t have access to this place in the summer.
