After a short walk along a logging spur road, we branched off along a trail and down to Underwood Cove with this fish farm.

Much of this trail follows the northernmost remnant of an ambitious plan to build a second railway between Victoria and Port Alberni, and north to Campbell River and Nootka Sound. It started in 1911, but by 1914 the money was running out and the start of WWI hastened its demise. There are remnants of the construction, such as this culvert.
And luckily, the rain held off until we were just about done

With a relaxed pace, a good lunch break and two strolls on the beach, we took five hours to cover the almost 12 kms, and were glad to be back in our warm vehicles when it started to pour.
