About the Island Mountain Ramblers

Hiking, Climbing and Exploring Vancouver Island since 1958

Rambler Peak (named for the IMR to recognize its first ascent)

If you’re ready to take the path less travelled and live your best adventure life, come to join the Island Mountain Ramblers. Our long-established club has members from Victoria to Port Hardy, though we call Nanaimo home.

The club was established in 1958. Our primary objectives are backcountry mountaineering and coastal trips, and to work for the preservation of parks and wilderness areas.

We are a club of amateur enthusiasts that love sharing outdoor experiences with people that want to develop their skills. The club offers a variety of activities throughout the year, including easy hikes and challenging climbs, backcountry ski trips and snowshoeing outings, sport-climbing at local crags, and education opportunities.

We explore both remote backcountry locations where you’ll need your navigation skills, and some established routes with boot tracks to follow. Whether you are looking for leadership opportunities, outdoor education, or simply want to get outdoors with a group of capable, like-minded individuals, come check us out.

Meetings are held twice a year: one in the spring and another in the fall. These meetings are social events where we swap stories; but also, listen to feature presentations from guests on such topics such as trekking in Nepal, climbing in South America, travelling to Antarctica, or preserving the Vancouver Island Marmot.

Members range from old to young, fit and not so fit, climbers and hikers. But they all love the outdoors and want to explore more of Vancouver Island.

Come join us and find some of the best hiking on Vancouver Island!
