Course Description:

This course is an upgrade to the 20-hour certificate.

learn to assess and stabilize head and neck injuries!

learn to assess and stabilize head and neck injuries!

This course will prepare you to care for an injured person for more than 24 hours. We teach a minimum of 75% of the course outside. This creates a learning environment that reflects the conditions you will most likely experience in a real situation. This course has the Standard First Aid and CPR C with AED built into the course. Upon successful completion of the course, you will have these certificates built into your Advanced Wilderness First Aid certificate.

Course Content Exclusive to the Advanced Course

We cover the same material as the WFA course, but with AWFA, the material is more in-depth. On top of the Wilderness First Aid content, we include the following information:

  • Helmet Removal
  • Traction and Realignment of Fractures
  • Tourniquets
  • Pulse Checks
  • Jaw Thrust for People with Possible Spinal Injuries
  • Rescue Breathing
  • Criteria for Discontinuing Spinal Precautions

In addition to the course content, we include basic shelter construction that is not part of the certificate. We include this because of the nature of the environment that you will be working and the relevance to the course content.
