Maple Mountain Ramble

November 5th, 2022

It was a beautiful day for a hike today (Saturday) that I led for Island Mountain Ramblers on Maple Mountain. For the hikers that showed up, we had an awesome day.

Everyone seemed to like the trails I showed, or maybe bushwacked in some places. Most of the hikers had never been on the trails we were on today. We started at Chilco Rd and I just chose trails as I got to them. Even found a new trail to a view point I have gone to many times but from a different way, everyone wanted to try it with me.

Rainford Lake was still, and beaver activity continues. I chose all lesser used trails except the Yellow Trail along the ocean, this is a beautiful trail, and we only saw 2 people. Lunch was noon on the dot, and we ended 5 hours after the hike started just as planned.

Most of the hikers came from a distance, Andrew from Port Alberni, Taz from Nanaimo, Joseph from Sooke, Mellissa from Victoria, and Ginny from Duncan. A wonderful group and I was happy to lead.

(Additional note from Mary:  I didn’t appreciate the No Shows – really, just send a message you won’t be there.  If you sign up, there is a commitment to either cancel or come. I am glad the club is taking action on these no shows.)
