Trips like these make us wonder if it’s even possible to spend too much time out here.

When we scheduled the trip, I was worried about the weather. In the week leading up to it, the weekend looked questionable. But by the time we left home, the forecast looked like it would accommodate our trip: rain before we got to the trail, overcast skies for hiking, and sunny beach evenings!

While we’ve done this trip many times, we spotted something new! While Hemingway was completing some volunteer hours for Scouting by doing a beach cleanup – thanks to Phil for joining us on that! – he spotted an insulator buried deep in the bark of a tree. Windfall had dislodged this aged tree, and it was apparent that the insulator previously held the transmission line for the telegraph wire that connected Bamfield to the lighthouse. Upon further inspection, we found several trees on the beach that still had pegs.

It was such a lovely outing!

I think it’s wonderful that you take your children hiking and they look so happy and contented.
