Five hikers set out around 10:00 am, for a ramble around the Town of Ladysmith trail system. Parking at the end of Colonia Dr., we followed the Holland Creek trail to just above the bridge, and then branched off to the Heart Lake trail. The climb up rewarded us with a view over Ladysmith Harbour.

The forecast was mediocre, but the day looked promising when 5 of us set out from the trailhead in Ladysmith. We made good time along Holland Creek, and up to the base of the Heart Lake trail. The grind up to the lookout paid off with good views of Ladysmith harbour, and a few minutes to catch our breath and have a drink. By the time we got to Heart Lake itself, it was a beautiful bluebird day. The sun decked the branches in jewels, as it melted the snow from the night before.
On a soggy Sunday morning, 8 of us (including Chica) set out to do the Heart Lake loop at 9:30. Although it didn’t stop drizzling, it was a pleasant morning and we arrived back at Durnfords for a Christmas potluck about 1 with Blake joining us for the potluck. It was a great opportunity to get a bit of exercise, enjoy some great food, and have a wonderful opportunity to catch up with everyone’s adventures of the year and plan some more.

Here are some pictures from Mike’s trip up to Heart Lake and the Holland Creek loops which ran on July 9th. Look carefully at the lake and you will see three very refreshed hikers.
