Heather Mountain is one of the many Vancouver Island hikes where the logging road approach far exceeds the distance on the trail proper. It’s a trip I do when nasty weather turns us away from more challenging objectives, and therefore one I do in the rain.
Our September 11th trip kept the status quo: rain. Somewhere between the road and the first meadow, my left boot was half-filled with water. By the time we exited the meadows, my first boot was filled, and my second one was feeling moist. At the summit block, both boots were oozing water. Sounds wet? Sure. But, this wasn’t my wettest day on this particular mountain.
We must have been hoofing because we reached the summit an hour after hitting the trail. While Dustin signed into the register, Phil and I grabbed a few summit shots. Though we didn’t have the best view or much of one at all, it is the best view I’ve had from this mountain.
All in all, it was a wet day on the mountain but highly enjoyable. One time I’m sure I’ll make it to the top when it’s lovely and clear.
