Cowichan RIver, Part 2

Submitted by Su Castle
Cowichan River was in full flood. The weather was dry, almost warm, with blue skies once the fog burned off.
The trail (just shy of 16 km) was in good condition. Only a few high water/wet spots to navigate around – including a spring river-ing down our turnaround trail!

We hiked the South Side trail (downstream direction), following the the river until gaining the spot that we turned around at on Part 1 Cow River -LHO. We used Cowichan Valley Trail back until crossing the 66 Mile Trestle, where we gained the north riverside trail to our TH.
The 6 people and the 2 dogs were thankful for the positive company and weather.  We watched kayakers and rafters play on the river and heard firsthand of one kayaker who had a very close call with logs on the flooded Skutz Falls. I think near misses like that can’t help but create more room for gratitude.
