Maple Mountain

—submitted by Mary Hof

Seven of us hiked from Chico Rd, Saturday, Feb. 5th. We started on the Blue, then yellow, then went up the cliffs to the Old Blue trail. We then headed Mary’s way (come follow me) and had lunch at Rainsford Lake. from there we headed back to the car, 11km and 700m elevation gain.

Ocean was very still, but a seal was swimming around, we saw an eagle where I usually see one. Don’t kid yourselves about the little streams we had to cross, Sue’s pole dropped and away it went, not to be found, even went down the waterfall.

The weather was good for a fun day out on the trails. I lead this hike for the Ramblers, and Outdoor Club of Victoria, and a chosen Cowichan hiker.
