We followed Chilco to blue, yellow, blue to the end, Mill Bay pink, Summit, Maple Syrup, Story Connector, Xylem, Tonyβs Arbutus, Maryβs Lookout, nnamed trails to m710, to Chilco.
I love this hike on Maple Mountain, starting on the Blue trail going down and along the Yellow trail along the ocean. I decided to lead this hike today for the OCV and Island Mountain Ramblers. Instead of following the Yellow till the end and then up to the Blue, I have found a way up through the ridges and forest to the Blue Trail.
The weather was perfect on this December day. I decided to lead the New Pink Trail on Maple mountain having just done is few days before. This hike does take you through a high cliff area, with a couple of tricky parts.
We started on this route all going well until one person just did not feel she could do it. It was decided we would all head down and bush walk to find the other pink. Finding it was no problem, we then continued our route to the top and down to Darell Bench and ridge and headed to a couple cars we had place on Arbutus Drive.
Well, it turned out to be a beautiful hike that I led for the Ramblers today. I had 11 cancel and 1 no show, but to those that came we had a wonderful day.
It was a beautiful day for a hike today (Saturday) that I led for Island Mountain Ramblers on Maple Mountain. For the hikers that showed up, we had an awesome day.
Seven of us hiked from Chico Rd, Saturday, Feb. 5th. We started on the Blue, then yellow, then went up the cliffs to the Old Blue trail. We then headed Maryβs way (come follow me) and had lunch at Rainsford Lake. from there we headed back to the car, 11km and 700m elevation gain.
Maple Mountain Ramble on Jan 9th 2022, turned out to be a beautiful sunny day with freezing temperatures to start. From the nine we had in the group (some were from the OCV club) many had never started from the Southview trailhead.
Three eager hikers, two I have never met, joined me for a 10km hike on Maple Mountain. Starting from the trailhead of Southview Terrace we went up a route I used to do 20 years ago. None of the others had been on that route before until we reached one of the bike trails.
Maple Mountain Ramble was 12.8km and 850m elevation gain. I had 3 Ramblers, and 3 Outdoor Club members. We went to some parts of the mountain where others had not been.
